I completed my master’s degree at the University of Pretoria in Counselling Psychology. I am a Group and Individual Therapist at the Centre Of Psychotherapy Excellence (COPE) at Akeso Parktown.
I have facilitated numerous DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), skills based and process based groups with adult and adolescent populations at Akeso. However, most of my time is spent on the adolescent unit.
I work with adolescents, adults, and families using DBT skills such as mindfulness as a way to help clients gain insight and learn to manage their lives more effectively. I focus on issues of adjustment, anxiety, depression and personality disorders. I also have a special interest in Art Therapy and often uses expressive mediums in my individual and group therapy sessions.
I have trained in Psychodynamic, Narrative, Dialectical Behavioural, Sandtray, Expressive Arts, Schema and family therapies.
I view therapy as a manner in which to make sense of and put experiences in perspective. I am amazed at the amount of suffering human beings can endure and yet still find strength within themselves. I am also constantly energized and encouraged by the way the mind and body work together to make sense of the internal experiences we have.
